Giverny and Monet’s gardens
In Giverny, Claude Monet lived for forty-three years and painted his famous Water Lilies. His pink house with green shutters, his Norman flower garden and his water garden crossed by the Japanese bridge open each spring. Strolling among the irises and nasturtiums, then discovering the series born here at the Museum of Impressionisms, offers a date of rare softness, out of time.
Les Andelys and Gaillard Castle
Perched above a majestic bend of the Seine, Gaillard Castle was built in under two years by Richard the Lionheart. The impressive ruins dominate the chalk cliffs and the village of Les Andelys. The panorama from the ramparts is one of the finest in Normandy: an ideal setting for a date where you take time to look, to speak, and to let silence play its part too.
Lyons-la-Forêt and Le Bec-Hellouin
Listed among the most beautiful villages in France, Lyons-la-Forêt lines its half-timbered houses around its old market hall, at the heart of one of the country’s finest beech forests. Further west, Le Bec-Hellouin and its Benedictine abbey complete the picture. On Lyad, members from the Eure share their walks and favourite inns: it is up to you to find someone to try them with.
